Chanel Cures the weekly blues…

The last week has been a blur of work and helping others get there work done… but Chanel's Spring/Summer 2014 collection has be daydreaming of a romantic evening party. Dramatic textures and shapes are the focal point of the collection, along with (unfortunately) sneakers. The way the models walked was strange for a runway but I'm biased towards heels. Here are some images of the beautiful models, make up, and clothing.

Seriously thought the sneakers are upsetting me.. everything else was so magical Karl! Why?!

Ok… your trying to make it modern, but modern women wear heels with gorgeous outfits such as those!

Ahoy ye landlubbers… there be a mermaid on our tail…

I'm taking this as a good omen for this wonderful brand new year: my favorite designer is drawing inspiration from one of my favorite movies, and from two of my favorite fantasies: Mermaids and Pirates.

While the pirate inspiration will take some arguments, the mermaid inspiration is pretty in your face. Specifically speaking the mermaid Madison from the 1984 "Splash".  If you haven't seen it, Splash is a movie about a mermaid named Madison (Daryl Hannah) who saves Allen (Tom Hanks) from drowning as a child. Twenty something years later, Madison goes on land where she is reunited with Allen (who has no idea she's a mermaid).

There is a lot more to the movie, but "Tom Hanks" and "Mermaid" in the same sentence should have already sold it.

Anyways, for their white label look book, Wildfox has found a Madison look-alike: Pro-surfer Hanalei Reponty. Hanalei is a self proclaimed "Mermaid from the beautiful island of Tahiti" (follow her on instagram @hanaleireponty ).  I've included a few of my favorite images below with scenes from "Splash" placed in-between.

 "Nude Beach Bound"

I personally enjoy the less "cartoony" items that Wildfox designs, but there were plenty of loud ice cream patterns and neon fruit sweaters etc. Many of the items have a heavy hawaiian influence, such as the shorts above. While staying over in Hawaii last summer, I found a company called Wonderland Honolulu. Wonderland makes the most amazing pom-pom shorts, and while I'm sure they aren't the only ones doing it, theres are just simply perfection. Billabong has already taken up the trend and it looks like Wildfox is as well (I'm still rooting for wonderland's!)

I also picked up a heavy pirate vibe in this look book. It might not have been as in your face as the "Splash" influence, but the pictures below screamed Keira Knightley stranded on an Island with Jack to me.

So? Do you agree? Not agree? Is everyone as excited for Spring time as I am?? I'm going to go light my soy-pineapple candle and count down the days until Spring time…. Leave your thoughts and comments below

Ciao Ciao,

The country might be freezing, but I'm dreaming of a deserted island…

Something tells me Vogue and Wildfox are on the same page.  In this months Vogue Brazil, Victoria's Secret model Candice Swanepoel makes rags and chili peppers look like the wardrobe of rainforest royalty.

Wildfox had a similar idea and did a look book for their spring collection based on the idea of girls being stranded on a deserted island as well. Here are some of the newly released images for the look book:

Sea shell crown… I'm thinking another crafty thursday post is in order…

One new thing about this look book (compared to other look books wildfox has done) is that they included recipes for meals and drinks inspired by the clothes and pictures! Wonderful idea!

Clare and I are getting these shirts as soon as they're available ;)

Im not sure how, but I actually already got this shirt from a seller on Ebay. I'm guessing the seller works in their warehouse? I got it a few months ago so you can guess how excited I was when I saw it in their look book.

(Note to self… time to start squating)

They've made a swimsuit with this pattern before but this season it's in a new cut.

I love this kaleidoscope geo shirt.

The weather might be getting a bit chilly this week (just a bit) but thanks to Vogue and Wildfox I'm already ready for Summer time.

ciao ciao,
