Packing packing packing

Ok... I really should post more, I've just been really busy with work then doing late nights packing and sorting (things to store and donate).

I did do something creative this morning though :) I run quite a bit and have accumulated a few numbers/medals/etc. so I decided to make a shadow box to organize it all in.

My mom made one for my dad as well :)

Also you may have noticed I have a thing for butterflies... Well my butterfly plants are doing really well! I planted them three months ago and look at them go!

These are milkweeds I grew from seeds.
And my Blue Chip summer lilac.

And here's one of my favorite "butterfly" of all... Miranda.

I've also been working on a great project with the kids I nanny! The WWF (world wildlife fund) has symbolic adoptions where the money you donate goes to a certain species you choose to "adopt". The donation comes with a stuffed animal and a certificate with your name on it. Each child picked the animal they wanted to "adopt", and we've been having a lemonade stand around town each day trying to reach our desired donation amount ($50 for each animal).

The kids have raised a little over fifty dollars so far and I'm so proud of them!!

We all deserved some sushi after all that hard work ;)

Ok... Gotta do some more packing. This move is going to be extremely interesting because I'm moving down for three weeks with just a suitcase because I can't move into my apartment until after my program starts... So I'm crashing at a friends for a bit. Should be fun :)

Bay--sac town--- city of angels

Put a few hundred miles on my car this weekend, got back from Hawaii and in a few days was already on the move again :) First to Sacramento to see one of the lovely brides to be Ash.

After Sushi!!! And some hot tubbin and cards against humanity we decided we needed a post midnight snack.

The next day I zooooomed down to LA, just in time for a four hour dinner at Michael's on Naples with Spencer =)

Here's a semi awkward picture of my outfit, getting to wear my new butterfly tank I got in Hawaii. I still can't believe I rallied after that drive, but I'm so glad I did! Michael's was phenomenal! We had a six course meal which included duck and venison (best venison I've ever had) and finished with an amazing cheesecake dessert complemented with Lemoncello. I studied abroad in Italy and had plenty of real Lemoncello so I know my Lemoncello and Michael's NAILED IT.

So clearly we had to get another glass, and the staff even brought us a tray of berries to compliment it. Needless to say, the staff and food were heavenly.

Spencer even met Michael the owner on the way out! Can't wait to go back again soon!

Next day harbor view:

Check out some pictures from the Wildfox Sample sale that friday:

The next dinner we went up to downtown LA to visit some friends. View out:

View coming back in:

And check out the crazy way the lights matched up with the music we were listening too...

Sunday morning I went on a run and ran into some really sketch cats...

Then Monday Tash and I road-tripped back up to the Bay. Here's my comfy road trip outfit...

and the shirt I came home to... Ebay I love you

More posts later... only a few more weeks until I'm in LA permanently

Confessions of a Shopaholic who is about to be a broke student again the same year she's MOH for two weddings... Ya.

As I've probably already portrayed in previous posts... I like to shop. I also like to travel and adore sushi more than a girl saving to go back to school probably should.

Instead of giving off the appearance that I'm some really lucky girl who can just buy whatever she wants, let me just say: I'm not.

I wish I was, but nope. Not at all. Never have been, and probably never will be (future teacher).

So today I wanted to make my first post about my very own shameless money saving techniques.

First of all ... clothes.

Four words: Email lists and Clothing swaps.

Emails from your favorite department stores can be a blessing AND a curse. You have to know how to navigate through them with finesse to come out on top.

Instead of signing up for every department store's email list, use websites like Shop Style. All you do is fill in your favorite brands, and Shop Style will send you emails anytime that brand goes on sale on ANY WEBSITE! From large department stores to online boutiques, Shop Style will find it.

Why is this better? If you sign up for too many store email lists, you will wake up everyday to an inbox full of sale notifications, giving you the urge to shop even when you may not have needed anything.

I've used Shop Style and Ebay to find most of my Wildfox items, and I only buy things that are at least 50% off!

Another website I use is Hautelook. Hautelook is a Nordstroms company that sells designer items on super sale, and everyday they have new designers on sale! Click here for an invite from me =)

I also enjoy freebies and discounts from Victoria's Secret through their mailing and email list. But watch out!! Make a list of what you NEED. Then wait... NEVER PAY FULL PRICE AT VICTORIA'S SECRET!! There are too many sales, freebies, super sales etc. And keep an eye on your list when you get those frequent emails about the discounts and free shipping. Do you really need a new bra? Didn't you just get a new one last month when you got that other discount?? Remember, unless you were already going to buy it, it's not a discount!

I've had to learn to toss these out (unless I was going to buy a new bra anyways):

And use these whenever you get them!!!:

Just make sure to bee line it to a sales rep, ask where the free panty is, redeem coupon and run out without looking at all the shiny things!!

The points system at Bloomingdales and Sephora are also extremely rewarding. If you already shop at those locations, I would check it out. If your a makeup lover like me, learn to wait for the holiday season! Sephora, toofaced, M.A.C etc. all have huge sales during the holidays or they have multiple gifts with purchase. I've learned to bulk up on samples during the holiday and use them all throughout the year to keep from having to make large make up purchases multiple times a year.

Clothing swaps are pretty basic, yet most people seem to completely overlook them. I find it very hard to believe that anyone can be a shopaholic and not have any fellow shopaholic friends. We tend to find each other, gush over our favorite brands, and encourage each other by sharing new brands/links to cute new clothes/asking others to go shopping even if they don't "need to".

Instead of being an enabler to another shopaholic, try a clothes swap! Chances are you and your fellow shopaholic have way too many clothes to handle (yes, you can have too many clothes). So try swapping clothes with each other instead of spending more money on new clothes! Here are some items I got in my last clothes swap:

Marc Jacobs t-shirt

Love the rat 🐭

And these punk boots my friend got in Paris

Clothes swaps are fun and give you the thrill of getting something new without the crash of buyers remorse.

...secondly, Groceries!

OK.. I know some of you may have something against.. "shudders"... coupons, but if your looking to save a few extra bucks so you can get that new jacket for fall TIME TO GET OVER IT.

Did you know that a bunch of the products that you buy weekly/monthly could have been purchased at a cheaper price?? And if images of people dumpster diving from the last episode of "Extreme Couponing" have left you with nightmares FEAR NOT! There's this thing called the internet that companies are using to reach out and give you coupons!

No more digging through newspapers (though I recommend checking for coupons for local restaurants and stores before tossing those suckers), now you can just search for your favorite products online and find coupons to print out at home and bring with you on your next shopping trip. Before leaving the house, check your newspaper for Grocery store sales in your local area. See where your coupon will help you out the most.

You can also join programs where companies give you points for buying their products. Now, I would only do this for products you already actually buy, because rule number one: It's not a discount if you wouldn't have bought it otherwise!

I for example love Special K cereal, nutri-grain bars, raisin bran, and corn flakes. All of these products are Kellog's brand food products so I went online to their website and joined the Kellogg's family rewards program. You literally get points for buying the products you would have already purchased and can use those points to buy kitchen items, more food, even gift cards (including movies and starbucks! Hello birthday presents to my friends).

I have more shameless ways to save money that I'll post later... tomorrow I'm going up to Sacramento then driving down to LA Friday morning, so expect some traveling outfits in the near future!

Aloha Hawaii! Aloha California!

Our second to last day we tried out Leonard's, a famous bakery in Honolulu. I don't really eat pastries but my family loved what they had!

Next we went to a beach to cure my "turtle blindness". Literally this entire trip I have been unable to "see" the turtles that my family keeps seeing! So we went to a place where the turtles are so abundant, it's impossible not to see any. I saw three!! We went back to snorkel at sharks cove again later and I was able to see one under water! My title blindness was cured!! Just in time :)

Here is an octopus made out of glass from the exhibit "oceans in glass". They had some amazingly beautiful work that was very inspiring. I'm ready to start getting creative again!

Joking around at sharks cove ;) glasses: Raybans

The 14th was our last day there... Started off the day really early with a 5:30 am run. Finally saw my first sun rise in Hawaii :)

And had my regular breakfast :) yummy

I used to work at Disneyland, and was working there the day they opened their resort on Oahu:

They made us wear buttons to promote the resort so I HAD to check it out since we were already on the island.

It was pretty cool, but a little too perfect for me. It just felt fake, but that's probably also because I had been living in a quite hawaiian town for two weeks.

Had to take a flower picture before we left :) these are everywhere! So lovely...

And of course, the first thing I see at the mall is the new Wildfox "I'm really a unicorn" T-shirt. I thought this was only available in dress form but this gem was at Neiman Marcus! Too bad they didn't have my size 😣

Last sunset on the way to the airport!

We had a really late flight so we got into California at 6:11 am! We slept most of the day but later on I met up with Clare for drinks and got this beauty:

Ready to head down to la this weekend!

The travels continue ;)
Adios,

Rumble in the jungle

Ok... This post keeps deleting and not uploading so hopefully this works... Now that its totally out of date...

We went on a jungle hike four days ago now :)

The hike wasn't too difficult but it ends at a waterfall so we had to cross this river a few times as the trail wove back and forth over it.

This is the bikini I wore on the hike :) jungle themed and all! Bikini by Victoria's Secret.

The next day mike and I went on a horseback trail ride up in north shore. The ranch is called "happy trails" and the scenery and the view were gorgeous!!

Happy camper on happy trails!

Here's my horse "jewel", all the horses are polo horses but jewel had an accident awhile back and tore ligaments in her back legs (she turned too quickly during a match). She's a little bitter and was definitely the alpha female of the group but we worked well together :)

Mike and I were the only English speaking riders so the owner Mark rode with us and told us stories about playing polo and surfing in Hawaii. It was a nice treat :) we also got to tast strawberry guava fruit! It's only edible right off the tree because the shelf life is so low (you can usually only taste it in jam form).

Here's the cat that runs the show!

Next we went back to my favorite snorkeling spot: Sharks cove!

Here I am training to be a mermaid ;)

The 12th was my moms birthday! We started off the day with some nice relaxing yoga!

And made some canine friends on the way home :)

More posts are on the way!

Ciao ciao!
