Aloha Hawaii! Aloha California!

Our second to last day we tried out Leonard's, a famous bakery in Honolulu. I don't really eat pastries but my family loved what they had!

Next we went to a beach to cure my "turtle blindness". Literally this entire trip I have been unable to "see" the turtles that my family keeps seeing! So we went to a place where the turtles are so abundant, it's impossible not to see any. I saw three!! We went back to snorkel at sharks cove again later and I was able to see one under water! My title blindness was cured!! Just in time :)

Here is an octopus made out of glass from the exhibit "oceans in glass". They had some amazingly beautiful work that was very inspiring. I'm ready to start getting creative again!

The 14th was our last day there... Started off the day really early with a 5:30 am run. Finally saw my first sun rise in Hawaii :) 

And had my regular breakfast :) yummy

I used to work at Disneyland, and was working there the day they opened their resort on Oahu: 

They made us wear buttons to promote the resort so I HAD to check it out since we were already on the island. 

It was pretty cool, but a little too perfect for me. It just felt fake, but that's probably also because I had been living in a quite hawaiian town for two weeks. 

Had to take a flower picture before we left :) these are everywhere! So lovely...

And of course, the first thing I see at the mall is the new Wildfox "I'm really a unicorn" T-shirt. I thought this was only available in dress form but this gem was at Neiman Marcus! Too bad they didn't have my size 😣

We had a really late flight so we got into California at 6:11 am! We slept most of the day but later on I met up with Clare for drinks and got this beauty:

Rumble in the jungle

Ok... This post keeps deleting and not uploading so hopefully this works... Now that its totally out of date...

We went on a jungle hike four days ago now :)

The hike wasn't too difficult but it ends at a waterfall so we had to cross this river a few times as the trail wove back and forth over it.

This is the bikini I wore on the hike :) jungle themed and all! Bikini by Victoria's Secret.

The next day mike and I went on a horseback trail ride up in north shore. The ranch is called "happy trails" and the scenery and the view were gorgeous!!

Here's my horse "jewel", all the horses are polo horses but jewel had an accident awhile back and tore ligaments in her back legs (she turned too quickly during a match). She's a little bitter and was definitely the alpha female of the group but we worked well together :) 

Mike and I were the only English speaking riders so the owner Mark rode with us and told us stories about playing polo and surfing in Hawaii. It was a nice treat :) we also got to tast strawberry guava fruit! It's only edible right off the tree because the shelf life is so low (you can usually only taste it in jam form).

Next we went back to my favorite snorkeling spot: Sharks cove!

The 12th was my moms birthday! We started off the day with some nice relaxing yoga!

And made some canine friends on the way home :)

Inspired by Hawaii and Hawaiians

Whenever I travel, I try to be inspired by things I see. The landscape, art, local trends, foods etc. I've been in Hawaii for 12 days now, so I wanted to make a post about things I have been inspired by right off the bat. Most of the things that I have been inspired by are from the Hawaiian country side in Waimanalo (where I have been living), Kailua,  or North Shore. I'm not the biggest fan of Honolulu...

The sea life in the area is made up of all the colors of the rainbow, with black, white, and grey serving as accent colors. Butterflies in the area also come in a variety of colors so I was first inspired to purchase the multi-colored butterfly crop top I posted yesterday.

 Getting back to the sea life, when your underwater many of the fish/sea life seem to change colors depending on how the light is hitting them at that exact moment. Locals seem to have embraced the concept of "rainbow fish" as shown by the octopus in my last post (printed onto canvas bags at whole foods) and this squid I saw today. 

This guy inspired me to invest in the Wildfox vintage rainbow crop top bathing suit: 

Now I can feel like I'm apart of the underwater rainbow show! The dream of being a mermaid never dies!

Another thing that has really inspired me is the way the wildlife seems to live here (and the locals for that matter). There arn't that many predators. At all. Sharks? Shure but mainly hammer heads and they are not aggressive at all. On land you have wild boars that you respect and get out of the way if they charge you (IF that ever happens), but besides that everything else living here is just... well, super chill. There are no snakes. No big cats. No aggressive animals. 

What do you have? Chickens... local cats... lizards... pet dogs... chi chi birds... and these guys:

This afternoon this little guy crawled right up to my daily "I'm going to drink this as the oven pre-heats and continue to drink it as I ignore the buzzer" glass of wine, and just hung out. Even when I moved the wine glass to take a sip, he stayed on the table and just chilled there. 

My thought is that it's so hot and humid, all you really can do is try your best to chill. Animals and people alike. Geckos and Lizards may scurry away from some birds, but the birds also have evolved to eat crumbs out of trash cans and polo fields (not to mention 4th of July left overs on the beach).  So really, what's the rush? The same seems to go for the locals. You're on an Island and it takes a fortune to get off of it and days to get anywhere with the low speed limits and constant waiting for the next shipment of fruit from the mainland... so really, what's the rush? There will always be more tourists to entertain, more waves to surf, more fish to discover, but what's the rush?

I took that mindset and some inspiration from some trippy art work I've seen here (I took my own "trippy" picture of my new friend below) and found this gem:

The shorts were also inspired by the HEAT. It is so hot and humid here I feel like I'm always in the ocean or a shower and barely wearing any clothes in between the two (and still sweating a storm). If I'm not wearing a bathing suit here I'm running around in loose shorts, skirts, dresses, and bralettes. Seriously, who wants to deal with a real bra when it's this humid? NO ONE. My favorite bralette is from Brandy Melville  and is the Chiyo Top or I've been wearing the hawaiian print bralettes from VS Pink along with a few of their Lace Bralettes. 

I've also been inspired to draw a few sketches, but I'll post the finished products after I've gone home and worked on them a bit with all my supplies.

'Merica!

Starting the celebrations off right by reflecting on those who fight for my right to freedom and those that have given their lives fighting for our country.

My dad and I did a six mile run around the Air Force and Marine base by our house. 

That's my dad, kicking my butt as usual.

Next we got the boys set up kayaking before I met up with one of my best buds Erin! Lucky me she was visiting the island too :) 

I met up with her and her friend and we spent the day tanning, swimming, and snorkeling.

Luau!

Are you starting to feel relaxed? Because I sure am.

Aloha! After the ranch and then the sea park we all hustled over to Germaine's Luau. Above you'll find mine and my parents drinks of choice for the evening, margaritas, Mai Tai's and Germaine's special (and definitely the best) the "skittle". I was definitely tasting the rainbow, and heaven with that one. Mmmmmmmmm!

The Disney girl in me just kept thinking of its a small world... 

The removal of the pig. The pig cooks underground with the help of hot lava coals from 5am until 7pm! It was fantastic and tasted completely different and better than any other luau pig I've had before.

This luau was extremely modern compared to other luaus I've attended before, and relied heavily on audience participation. But hey, that's ok. You don't need to ask me twice to hop on stage and shake my hips...

I've decided to run away and join the Luau, adios parentals!
